Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our initial interview was postponed due to covid19.
This time, the interview notice said not to be early and to wear masks otherwise they won't allow entry. We reached 30 mins earlier. Our USCIS interview agent was friendly. He asked us to show - Driving license, passports, birth certificates. Then he went through the file to see if any document is missing. He checked our original application, asked if anything has been changed. He checked our i-864, medical, address, photos, and other documents submitted already. He asked us to show the financial documents with both our names. We submitted our joint savings account, credit card statements with both our names, 2019 joint tax. He also asked to show the photo album and selected 10 photos from there. Then he asked us questions like when/how did we meet, when did we decide to get married, how long was the courtship period, where have we traveled after marriage. Then he said our case looks very straightforward and that's all. Overall it took us 2 hours. We were approved in an hour after the interview.

Interview was scheduled for 1PM.
Expected long lines for security, arrived early as per other advises, but the side entry was open, so we were the only ones there. Less than a minute.
Went up the elevator, 12:30. Officer greeted us at the elevator hall, checked the letter and ID's, directed us.
Took maybe 5mins to wait at the window. Got seated and were told to wait.
1:05PM Officer came out and called our names.
He seemed very serious and not really approachable. Wouldn't even shake hands, so right of the bat had bad vibes.
Asked to swear to say the truth, then for Birth Certificates, Passports, Marriage Certificates right of the bat once we sat down. He went through all of them.
Then asked the relationship questions. How did we meet, where did we meet, when did we start dating, when and where proposed, when got married, where the petitioner works, what does he do there, then same question about the beneficiary. Asked petitioner about beneficiary parents (FULL NAMES). Where we live, who else lives with us. Did we go on the honeymoon, did we travel anywhere else. I'm sure i've forgotten a couple as he kept pounding us with questions about the relationship. (Not a single smile)
Then confirmed the address on the application, went through the application, checked out the usual questions from the application.
(He didn't ask for affidavit of support or DS 3025 (Both were submitted with application), as some say they do ask to update them, just have latest tax paperwork on you JUST IN CASE they decide to ask).
Then he asked for relationship proof, bank statements, joint assets, pictures, anything we could show him to "prove bonafide relationship". The usual stuff. We didn't have much to show, but a bill from dentists, statements, mortgage approval in both names, Drivers licenses, her paycheck with same address, and maybe 6-8 pictures. Keep in mind, they WILL KEEP ALL THAT PAPERWORK, so if you need anything back, have a copy in hand to give to him.
Once we were done, he asked if we had any questions. And that we should check our case status for updates, and that he needs to review the application to make a decision. Once we left the building, even before we got in the car, we got a notification of card being produced.

I mean, i felt like more of a job interview, than Immigration interview as it was very professional and no joking around. I feel i should rate it 4, but 5 is more appropriate, given all circumstances. We were in the building 12:30, and out 1:40PM. Ample of parking (use Orchard street parking, pretty expensive 1+hour is $20, but its second time i was there and easy to find a place to park, that place takes cash AND credit). Staff was friendly, both security and window staff. I feel like officer could've been more approachable, but since it's a serious thing, i get it ( though he made us sweat out of nervousness lol), but he was direct and didn't waste a second, so that is appreciated.

Very good overall experience. My advice to make it smoother-> Have passports and interview letter close , have all paperwork separated in the folder so you won't have to scramble during the interview. go with ID's, birth certs, marriage cert ( ID's and BC's being on top) -> I-94's -> Approval letters for Ead, AP, I129F (we were not asked but have them) -> Relationship proof at the bottom, and then separate folder for taxes just in case.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

So I finally went to my AoS interview at Newark today. I had a very early interview. Pretty much as soon as it opened. I would have to say that it couldn't have gone smoother. The security measure wasn't a pain at all.
1. I didn't have to take off my shoes as my wife and I wore sneakers to the interview.
2. I took off my watch and emptied my pocket into the tote bag of documents.
3. The guard directed us to the right floor.
4. Went to the registration window and checked in for the interview.
5. Waited for the interview... and waited... and 1 hour later we were called.
6. Entered the interview. The interviewing officers(IO from now on) was friendly but professional. He went straight for the questions. Oddly my wife got asked most of the questions when she is the USC and I'm the applicant.
7. He then asked us if we had any other documents. We did I handed over photos of which he kept some, tax bills, joint account statements, shared medical insurance policies, and shared house and car insurance policies.
8. At the end of the interview he gave us a form indicating he still had some reviewing to do and to expect a decisions within 120 days. I asked, "Exactly how long?"
"Up to 120 days... but I will usually have a determination by the end of the day.", said the IO.
9. We got up shook hands with and thanks the IO and left.
10. We got the nearby parking lot, paid the $20 in parking for the time and left for IHOP for a nice breakfast.

All in all it was a good experience with little to complain about. Getting there was a little tough but we had a car and parking wasn't really that bad all things considered.
So with that all done all I can do now is wait.

had our interview 9/11 at 115pm. Everyone was very nice and waiting time wasnt too long. id say we were there for no more than 2 hrs. We got there 1hr before the interview time and had to wait until it was 30 mins before that time. officer was nice and polite, asked us questions like who proposed to who, describe the proposal, how many siblings each on has, if we go on vacation anywhere, where we work what we do, etc. Interveiw was no longer than 30 mins in the end she told us that the file still needed to be reveiwed and to wait for a notice in the mail.
